Suicide, Suicide, Suicide Rates Increasing

Another article, just like I had as promised last Friday. This article may not have originated in the U.S.A. but you have to understand that I write about interesting and fascinating topics. This article will give a depressing start to the week.

According to the Canadian Medical Association Journal suicide rates have been increasing in girls between the age group of 10 to 19, and 10 to 34 . Back in 2008, suicide was one of the leading causes of death in Canadians between those ages. When compared to previous studies, suicide rates in in teens and young adults were considered stable with no significant increase or decrease. What is so special about this study is something you may ask? Well, it basically means that more innocent females are resorting to suicide to take all of the pressure off that the world is putting on them.

However, this is different for males in the same age group as the suicide rate has been decreasing for them. There is one thing in common between the both sexes, the method of suicide. The leading method of suicide is suffocation; however due to the increasing popularity of the "choking game" where teens attempt to induce a "high" effect by temporarily depriving their brains of oxygen, may have caused the cause of death to be misclassified.

The study's publishers have concluded by saying, "The prevalence and influence of the Internet and social media in the lives of young Canadians cannot be discounted in this discussion and warrants further research to understand its risks related to suicide. The term 'cyber-suicide' has evolved to describe the numerous websites, chat rooms and blogs promoting suicide and suicidal ideation. Such sites are obviously troubling; yet, paradoxically, the Internet and social media also hold potential benefits for the prevention of suicide." Do you think it's a coincidence that females have a higher suicide rate, or is it just the amount of corruption that exists in our society in present day?
